TELLConsult senior staff member Ton Koenraad was invited to attend the final multiplier event organised by the Holi-Frysk Project on October 5, 2021.
The event took place at the NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences in Leeuwarden (NL).
The rationale of the project’s mission ‘multilingual secondary education for everyone’ is explained on its website:
‘Regional and minority languages, such as Frisian, are growingly coming into contact with migrant languages, as more migrants move to officially bi- or multilingual regions in Europe. Schools, already struggling to meet the standards for the national and foreign languages in the curriculum, are thus faced with the need to update their take on languages. However, how to handle this variety of languages in practice is unknown to many schools and teachers. While some research on holistic approaches (also called plurilingual approaches) for primary education has been carried out, secondary schools still remain under-explored.’
Two members of the Research Group Multilingualism & Literacy presented an overview of the project results.
The session was concluded with a social event also allowed Ton Koenraad to speak about and share the the TEMPLATE project flyer (Technology-Mediated PLurilingual Activities for (language) Teacher Education) with the guests and the local researchers.
While he was introduced to Prof. Joana Duarte, the lead of the research group, and Cor van der Bakker, project manager at Mercator European Research Centre on Multilingualism and Language Learning, he also informed them about his involvement in the TEMPLATE project and discussed possibilities for further exchange of information and materials.
